The City of Merida is the Capital of Yucatan and the economic and cultural center of South-Eastern of Mexico. Merida, known also as “the White City,” is considered the cultural and tourist capital of the Mayan World and is near to the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, the small towns with a special colonial flavor and the most important archeological sites of the Mayan culture: Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Mayapan and Kabah. You’ll also find movies, theaters, hospitals, public and private schools, four universities, shopping malls with such stores as Sear’s, and chain stores such as Sam’s, Costco and WalMart, as well as the Mexican chains of Liverpool, Comercial Mexicana, Soriana and Sanborn's.

Merida International Airport has direct flights to and from Mexico City, Cancun, Houston and Miami. Also, Merida is conveniently reached by direct bus lines from Cancun International Airport, which is well connected to most important cities around the world. Continental Airlines fly from Houston, Texas direct, non-stop to Merida and AeroMexico and Mexicana offer direct flights from Miami.
